Transfer deadline - don’t forget your Euros!

Foreign exchange is prevalent in many aspects of our lives and businesses, and football is no exception.

UK clubs are being bought by foreign investors, footballers are buying holiday homes overseas, and now it is involved in the transfer window.

Players are being bought and sold by clubs in the UK and internationally.

  • Marseille is looking to sell defender Duje Caleta-Car to Southampton.
  • Fulham has signed Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa.
  • Everton midfielder Andre Gomes is in talks to move to French side Lille.
  • Manuel Akani has joined Manchester City. It is reported that they have paid €18 million to Borussia Dortmund for a 5-year deal.

High-street banks are usually 3-4% more expensive than a currency specialist and, in some extreme cases, even 9%. Even if you save 0.5%-1% against your bank, the difference on €18 million would be €90K - €180K.

In 1 month, we have seen GBP/EUR weaken by 3%, and 1% within a day. On these transfers, that would be a difference of nearly £493K and nearly £181K, respectively.
